Clearwater
     IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ATHLETES

Due to lingering weather conditions from Tropical Storm Ida, we have relocated the swim to the Harbor side of Clearwater Beach.  Please accept our sincere apologies for this last-minute change but this is in the interest of athlete safety.  Volunteers and staff will be on-hand race day to direct you to the correct swim start location.  It is a five-minute walk from the transition area.  (See map below)

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we explore the safest and most ideal swim course for the 2009 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3.

NO SWIMMING WILL BE PERMITTED ON FRIDAY IN THE HARBOR AREA.  The new swim course is open to boat traffic and construction only.  Athletes violating this will be disqualified.  No exceptions!

The harbor swim will be an in-water wave start for professionals and a time-trial start for age groupers. Pro waves will go as per scheduled times (6:45 for pro women and 6:53 for pro men). Age group time trials will start at 6:55 a.m. The time trial start for age groups will be done in order based on current assigned waves. Please pay attention in the morning while in transition for swim staging instructions. Transition will open 15 minutes early to allow for plenty of time to stage. Please follow instructions as provided tomorrow morning.

There will be plenty of viewing opportunities at Pier 60 and the finish line area. Due to the limited space at the swim start, spectators are requested to await their athlete near the transition area following the swim.  SPECTATORS: PLEASE RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY.
